Purses
I’m not a particularly girl-y lady, but I have managed to obtain a couple of intriguing purses over the years. What can I say? I really like odd, out-of-the-mainstream things. Also, I tend avoid leather bags and purses for some reason. Heh, it’s probably my last remaining habit from the 3ish years I attempted to be a vegetarian in college. Anyway, my favorite purse is my Owl.
I found him at the Loring Park Art Festival a couple of years ago. He’s big enough to fit all the stuff I need to drag with me, but not so big as to get in the way when I’m bustling around town. He’s also a lot lighter than the prettiest purse I own, which is made of galvanized steel. Jon originally crafted the chainmaille purse to sell on Ebay (this was well before Etsy existed) but due to the costly labor involved in making it, and the expensive shipping due to it’s weight, he wasn’t able to make a sale at an appropriate price. So, I snagged it for my own! It’s a riot to bring it out to Renaissance Festivals. Everyone thinks it’s really cool, and well, it IS really cool. So, what kind of purses/purse habits do you have? Are you a designer fiend? Do you prefer handmade goodness? Share photos if you’ve got ‘em!

I’m addicted to Coach purses, sadly. Or really cute and odd Messenger bags.
krissy’s last blog post..I hate icy roads.
Wow those are some cool purses. I don’t use purses a lot, but I also tend to steer clear of the leather purses. In high school, I used a small army-type purse that I used to love. Basically cheap purses from thrift stores made of cute material are my type of thing.
Caity’s last blog post..Sick day.
OMG… That owl purse is THE single-most coolest bag I have EVER seen, EVER. LOL!!!! Holy crap, I love it.
You got some great style, Brianne. <3
That owl purse is adorable! My brother-in-law is obsessed with owls, and I know that he would definitely appreciate the creativity of that purse!
And the chain mail purse? Really neat. My husband is really interested in chain mail, but I won’t show him your purse, because I know if I did he’d want to make one for me, and then I’d obligated to use it and haul it and all of my crap around haha.
The chainmail purse is still a fun thing for me to show off, but it certainly could have turned out better. In hindsight I should have used a different kind of metal for a couple reasons. First, galvanized steel is really just steel with a thin coating of zinc. Zinc oxidizes easily and then becomes a whitish gray in color, which makes the purse lose some of its oooh factor. Second, steel is a fairly heavy metal…. the purse isn’t practical in terms of weight. Third, because of the oxidization that rubs off when the links rub together a constant smell of metal emanates from the purse, making it less than attractive.
My wife says this comment is too long, so I’ll stop now
