Booked!

I’m so excited! I got my first dance photo ‘gig’! (I decided to start doing some free photography as a way to be more involved in the belly dance community.) I’m going to be taking photos at Bohemian Underground‘s Boh-ho-ho-Holiday Hafla!

It’s going to be tons of fun! It’s a casual Hafla where the BohoU students can get a taste of dancing for a crowd, as well as allowing other local belly dancers a chance to shimmy, donate to some great charities, and celebrate the Holidays! *grin*

I have to say, while I’m completely thrilled that I get to go, I’m a bit nervous that the lighting will be dim and it’ll be hard to get decent shots. What I should probably do is learn how to use the flash on my camera before the big night. *sigh* But I dislike using flash. Maybe I could pick up a mining helmet instead, you know, the kind with the big head lamp attached… heh heh. Ok, I won’t go that far.

I did get a tip a while back from Eliesa of Photogen-Inc that she sometimes uses a cheap video light for some of her photography. I’d be curious to see how well something like that would work. It might be easier to control than a flash, but it might also be more bothersome in a dim crowded area. I think I’ll start playing with the flash first, because I don’t have to buy anything to practice that. *grin*

Any tips for me about using flash?
