New Geekery!
I’ve been invited to an SCA meeting! It’s something I’ve been tempted to try for a while, so since my friend Mara is kind enough to let me tag along with her, I’m finally going to see what it’s all about! She thinks the theme of the evening is embroidery, which is something I have no experience in, so it should be pretty interesting. Weirdly, I think I’m all the more interested in this sort of group because I never had to take a Home Econ. class in school, so there are a lot of practical skills that I never picked up – sewing, cooking, building medieval weaponry/armor…
Actually…
I DO know how to create chainmaile! *grin* I can’t wait!

Many many moons ago I was a member of Dagorhir, which is like the SCA but with what they call “boffer” weapons (padded weapons). I hope you had fun!

That’s awesome! I’m not sure how much of the fighting I’ll do. The College of Tor Aerie seems to mainly focus on the arts and sciences. But, maybe if I find a way to go to the Barony meetings I’ll have a chance to learn some weapon skills.
Yeah, I started out fighting, but then eventually sidelined myself and acted more as a camp mother and referee. I’d watch and call battles, check weapons, help the guys with their armor, etc. It was alot of fun.
