Belly Dance

11-9-09 ZillsI’m still relatively new to belly dance, but it has quickly become one of my favorite things! I even blog about it!

So far, I have not done any performing other than at two Cassandra School student shows. I’m not sure if performing is in my future or not, to be quite honest. However, I really enjoy watching others, and I adore photography, so why not combine the two?!

Here’s the deal… If you’re a local dancer, I’ll probably be willing to shoot some free photos for you! I shoot at roughly an ‘enthusiast’ level, so please don’t expect pro-quality photos, but hey, free is good right?! Email me (pitt.brianne at gmail.com) and ask some questions!

I will:

  • bring my equipment – a Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i with an 18-55mm f3.5 lens, and a tripod if needed
  • edit and color correct the good shots – I use professional quality editing software and have had some formal training on how to use it.
  • get the photos to you via some online/electronic method – I can post them at a photo sharing site (Flickr) for you to download, or I may be able to send them via email
  • only shoot photos if you are willing to let me post them here on my blog and at FlickrI like being able to share my photography work with others!

I won’t:

  • be able to travel to outer suburbs or distant locations without transportation help – I only use my bike and public transit in my daily life
  • print any of the photos or burn them to a CD – First off, this is a hobby for me, not a job. Also, the reason I’m able to offer free photography services is because it doesn’t cost me anything!
  • be able to take photos of an event if I would have to buy a meal or pay an entrance fee – if you want photos of a live performance, make sure I’m on the guest list
  • provide make-up or costumes – you need to prepare yourself for the photo shoot
  • make money from photos I take of you – I love to share my photography online, but I will never sell the images for profit!

If you’re interested, please feel free to get in touch!

As for my dance experience, I’ve been dancing for just over two years now, developing the bulk of my experience at The Cassandra School. I’ve taken class levels one through three with many great instructors – Melanie Meyer, Kathy McCurdy, Jenny Piper, and Sarah Jones-Larson.

I was also very fortunate to spend five weeks during the summer of 2009 with the women of Totally Northern Tribal. I’m so impressed by what they do, and it was awesome joining in while my schedule allowed it! You can find some photos I took of a performance here, and I definitely suggest that you go see them dance if you live in the area!

I recently started to develop more interest in the tribal fusion style, so I managed to go to a couple of classes at Bohemian Underground this fall. I’m hoping that after Christmas I’ll be able to attend lessons on a regular basis. The ladies there are incredibly fun and sassy! They rock!

I can’t wait to see where this weird world leads me!
