Geekery

Journey Quest

If you’re a geek like me, this is the sort of thing that gets you excited… Journey Quest is about to have a full-length second season!!

There’s something about fantasy and comedy together that works really well for me. It’s an invitation for the mind to come out and play; to not take everything so seriously. It’s a reminder that sometimes you want someone a little different on your team, because diversity of talents is a good thing. A questing party of five human fighters would get pretty dry, and quite dangerous, after a while.

I pledged $50, so apparently I get to coin two Orcish words. Any suggestions?

Six Left

I’m on episode 173 of 178 of Star Trek: The Next Generation. My favorite moments of the series have to include Data’s Ode to Spot and Picard making young Patterson his ”Executive Officer in charge of radishes.” I love this series! The only episode that really threw me was The Host. It felt too much like a fanfic story.

I’m looking forward to checking out DS9 next, since I didn’t pay all that much attention to it when I was a kid.

Joy and Sorrow

While Netflix has had its share of naysayers lately, I’ve been using it a lot to stream Star Trek: The Next Generation. I just finished episode five of season three.

I always knew it was a good show, but I appreciate it on a totally different level now that I’m an adult. One of the awesome things about Sci-Fi and Fantasy series, in general, is that they hold up reasonably well over time because they do not take place in the ‘normal’ world. While it is kind of funny that the tricorders are four times the size of my cell phone, it’s easy enough to suspend disbelief because the implied level of sophistication is still beyond our capabilities to reproduce.

Anyway, my point is that this show is really good. IS really good, not was. One episode can make me double over in laughter, and the next can make me hug my knees in empathy for a character.

I love it.

The Family Way

Not THAT family way, though.

Last night was a total ‘Peterson-style’ night. My youngest brother and his girlfriend came over to hang out for a while. In true Peterson fashion, he came equipped with games we could play, and in even truer Peterson fashion, we only played one (Chrononauts) and ended up talking for hours about grade school teachers and bits of geekery.

I can only imagine what kind of crazy fun we would have if we lived nearer to some of our cousins. If I hadn’t taken the wrong weekend off of work, I’d definitely be on my way to the family reunion in a few weeks.

Tablet & Google+

I got an early birthday present from the hubby! I now have a Wacom tablet! It’s going to take me a while to get used to it, but it’s pretty fun so far. *grin* I used it to doodle myself a new header! I’m looking forward to seeing what it can do as far as photo editing goes, and I may even draw stuff for this blog occasionally. We shall see!

Also, I’m on Google+! Woohoo! So far, I’m liking it. It’s not better than Facebook quite yet, but it shows promise. I like the way following works, as it’s more like Twitter – you don’t have to know someone to keep up with their public posts. It makes it possible to see what folks like Chris Pirillo and Felicia Day are up to in a more psychologically comfortable way than how it works on Facebook. Yes, I know I’m a bit crazy.
