An Evening In

So, I’m an introvert. I am capable of stretching myself and engaging in social situations I find uncomfortable, but when I have the apartment all to myself on a Saturday night, sometimes the lure of peaceful relaxation is just too much to turn down. Today was one of those days, so earlier I sent this message to an acquaintance.

Hello to the birthday girl!

I hope your party is the best sort of fun!

I wanted to let you know that I’m giving myself permission to stay home, eat pizza, and watch Star Trek tonight. I’m feeling very introverted today, and I don’t want to be the person hiding in the corner, staring at my phone, trying to avoid conversations, and making other people feel awkward in my presence. I know this is incredibly selfish, but I’m hoping it also means you and your party guests will have a better time because no one will have to think twice about who is or isn’t having a good time.

Have a super happy birthday party! I’ll eat an extra slice and say
hello to Jean-Luc for you. ;)

I’m kind of proud that I was brave enough to chicken out, heh. The Captain and my pizza are waiting…

(7/31/11 Note: I figured out that of the 168hrs in a week, I only have the apartment completely to myself for about 8-10 of those hours  on average.)

Days 5 through 11

I’m back from vacation, and the song is finished! Day 5 ended up being based on an inside joke between my husband and I about waffle bags (don’t ask), but days 6 to 11 are all pretty tasty!

On the fifth day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… Continental Breakfast!

On the sixth day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… Malted Killer Brownies

On the seventh day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… A Sloppy Joe at Isaly’s

On the eighth day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… An Ice Cream Cone at Handel’s

On the ninth day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… A Galley Boy at Swenson’s

On the tenth day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… A Large Banana Slurpee (Slurpees bring back a lot of college memories, so even though I ate some awesome food at Brat House Grill in Wisconsin Dells, it had to be the Slurpee in the song!)

On the eleventh day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… Smoked String Cheese in Nelson

All in all, it was a very tasty vacation! I can’t wait for the next one!!

The 11 Days Of ‘Cation

It’s the start of day 5 on our road trip to Ohio! We started writing a song based on the 12 days of Christmas all about the yummy treats we’ve enjoyed along the way. Things haven’t gone completely to plan, but they’ve generally stayed on the yummy side of things (only one exception thus far). *grin*

On the first day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… some twizzlers and a diet rootbeer. (This is reminiscent of road trip food from my childhood, which it why it’s awesome.)

On the second day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… Organ Piper Pizza.

On the third day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… CarmelCrisp from Garrett’s

On the fourth day of ‘cation I put in my tummy… George’s Yummy Gyros

Hopefully we find something great for today, as it’s a very important part of the song!!

Also, I’ve only had time to post a couple so far, but feel free to keep an eye on my Flickr page for photos of the trip!

Almost Time & PI

It’s hard to believe that vacation is almost here!! We leave Monday right after I get off work. I’d love to duck out early, but I think I’ll be too busy. Oh well, 4pm will come soon enough! Then – it’s Jon, Me, Surprise (the name of our Honda Element – get it??) and the open road!! As long as we don’t end up in any southeast-bound thunderstorms, it’ll be great. *grin*

You know what else? Only 4 days til we’re at Organ Piper Pizza! Can’t wait!!

In other news, I re-took the Predictive Index (PI) test at work, just out of curiosity. I haven’t changed a whole lot, but I’ve grown more assertive. It’s a good thing, I think, as long as I can temper it when it’s unnecessary.  One interesting thing – I tend toward the extreme objective end of the objective-subjective scale. It was suggested that extreme objectivity is sometimes caused by traumatic events or painful situations. I found that a bit humorous, because I have my suspicions that it’s just a family trait in my case, and a trait I also share with my husband. Many of us are NT‘s, after all. It did get me thinking though (imagine that, heh) …is there anything I can do to stretch my subjective and emotional muscles? This may be something to explore in the future.

A Real Vacation!

Since Jon and I have been together, we’ve only gone on a few small trips. The longest one was a year before the wedding when we spent a couple of days in Wisconsin Dells and then went to northern Illinois for my family reunion. After we got married we only spent two nights away from home, so rather than a honeymoon, we called it a honeymeteor. It was over in a flash, heh.

This spring, we’re finally going on a REAL vacation! The kind that lasts over a week! It has been a long time since I’ve had the chance to travel to a new place and I’m seriously excited! Our niece’s first birthday is coming up, so we’re going to take a road trip out to Ohio to visit. I don’t think I’ve ever been to Ohio before, and while it’s not New York or Washington D.C. I’m still looking forward to wandering around in Cleveland. I totally need to try the spaghetti with chili on top.

On the way we’re going to do some stuff in Chicago – maybe go to the Museum of Science and Industry, or walk around Navy Pier. I’m also hoping to go to the Indiana Dunes, since they’re not far off the interstate and they are lovely! Check out this photo by binarydreams! I can’t wait!
