Some Update Type Things

  • My husband is having a pretty major dental procedure on Tuesday, and I’m so proud of him for finally doing it. He’s gonna have a nice new smile and I can’t wait to see it!
  • I hit 240 days over at MFP! Things have been moving slower in the last few months, but I’ve lost 42.5lbs total to date. I have just over 20lbs to go, and I have a feeling it’s going to be a long crawl. I suppose it will help me develop better long term habits though, so I’m ok with it.
  • Vacation planning is going pretty well, though I’m definitely driving Jon nuts. I’ve recently started looking for interesting Chicago restaurants. We may have to go to Ricobene’s. Oh, and I finally found the website for Kernel Popcorn’s Factory in Wisconsin Dells (after trying to remember the name of the place for the last 7 years)! We’re definitely stopping there to pick up goodies!
  • I’m still having a great time in Rift, even though I only play a few hours a week. I found a guild of awesome people, which makes it even better. I love that they let me play my way (which is usually solo) but still make me feel like part of the group. My main character is an Eth rogue named Sorah. Here’s a screenshot of her in Meridian. This game is so freakin’ pretty!

Day Eleven

I’m already on the last day of my vacation. *sigh* I didn’t accomplish very much, but I can blame at least some of it on the cold I got on day seven. The last five days mainly consisted of trying to sleep and failing, eventually sleeping really late into the day, and watching a whole lot of television. Fortunately, I have plenty of The West Wing on hand, so I was never bored.

I’m only one photo behind on my project, but I might try to make it up today. We’ll see. I obviously didn’t make it to the gym as often as I’d hoped to, since I was sick for roughly half of my vacation. I also succumbed to comfort food a bit more than I should have, so it’ll be a couple of weeks before my number moves in the right direction. I just have to get back to following my healthy motto: “It’s all about the long trend…” I didn’t get much cleaning done either, which is unfortunate. Hopefully I’ll be well soon and get a big burst of energy so I’ll want to get some of that stuff done. Better late than never.

I’m not quite ready to go back to work tomorrow, but life keeps on moving, ready or not.

Vay-Cay!

Aaaaand my 11 days away from work begins… NOW! Ok, vacation really started at about 3pm, but it’s close enough.

I’m keeping up with my photo project quite well thus far. I even posted two shots today! It never hurts to work ahead, heh. I’m going to try to take more interesting photos over the next week and a half since I’ll have so much more time available! I’m really hoping for a nice fluffy snowfall one morning so I can FINALLY get a shot that I bought props for a year ago.

Tomorrow is the 160th day of my new, healthier lifestyle. I’ve lost 34lbs now, and I’m feeling really good. I want to get to the gym several times while I’m on vacation, since I’ve been a bit of a putz with exercise lately. If I ever want to try rapier or armored combat in the SCA, I HAVE to start working out and getting in better shape.

Speaking of SCA, remember the play I mentioned in the last post? I’m belly dancing in it on Saturday! *gulp* I’m already nervous! I need to practice a bunch over the next few days. I also need to finalize my costume. So. Nervous. But also pretty excited. *grin*

Wish me luck!

A List

There are many days where I prefer lists and spreadsheets over cohesively themed paragraphs. Today is one of those days!

  • Thanks to a bit of extra income, my credit card balance is $0 and I bought a used 22 string harp! I don’t officially know how to play it, but I’ve figured out how to put together a simple melody. So far it is much easier than guitar since the strings can’t change notes!
  • There’s a little badge thingy on the left-hand side of the page that says I’ve lost 21lbs. It rounds – I’ve really only lost 20.5lbs. MyFitnessPal.com has been a big help!
  • My apartment is a disaster. It’s difficult for me to figure out how much of it is my fault and how much is the result of living with two guys. I’m pretty sure I was the last person to do dishes…
  • I’m still having a LOT of fun with SCA. There’s a big event next Saturday – Stellar University of Northshield. I’m particularly looking forward to the English Country Dancing and How To Develop a Persona classes.
  • I signed up to take Interpersonal Communication in the spring, since it’s a required class. I find it terribly amusing that they offer an online version, so I signed up for that one. I haven’t decided if I am going to take a second class or not. I don’t want school to suck up all my free time, but I also don’t want to be taking classes forever.

The Long Trend

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about trends. It’s partly because I’m in an economics class, sure, but it applies to so many things. Eating poorly for one day does not make you unhealthy. Likewise, eating all your fruits and veggies for one day doesn’t make you healthy. The same type of thing holds true for finances. And for relationships. And for personal hygiene and general cleanliness. And for smartness, compassion, open-mindedness, and intelligence. Who I am tomorrow is highly dependent on my long term trends, on how I do things +80% of the time.

Yesterday I posted the following on Facebook:

Does the thing you want today move you closer to, or farther from, the life you want tomorrow?

‘The thing’ I want today does not have to be a material object. It could simply be that I want to sit on my couch, watch TV, and relax, or spend all my extra money on entertainment and restaurant food. There’s nothing wrong with either of those things, but when they become a trend I have to ask myself if I like the direction I’m headed. So, it would be good for me to ask myself the question more frequently. I certainly have a few trends that could use improvement or fine tuning.
