An Evening In

So, I’m an introvert. I am capable of stretching myself and engaging in social situations I find uncomfortable, but when I have the apartment all to myself on a Saturday night, sometimes the lure of peaceful relaxation is just too much to turn down. Today was one of those days, so earlier I sent this message to an acquaintance.

Hello to the birthday girl!

I hope your party is the best sort of fun!

I wanted to let you know that I’m giving myself permission to stay home, eat pizza, and watch Star Trek tonight. I’m feeling very introverted today, and I don’t want to be the person hiding in the corner, staring at my phone, trying to avoid conversations, and making other people feel awkward in my presence. I know this is incredibly selfish, but I’m hoping it also means you and your party guests will have a better time because no one will have to think twice about who is or isn’t having a good time.

Have a super happy birthday party! I’ll eat an extra slice and say
hello to Jean-Luc for you. ;)
~Brianne

I’m kind of proud that I was brave enough to chicken out, heh. The Captain and my pizza are waiting…

(7/31/11 Note: I figured out that of the 168hrs in a week, I only have the apartment completely to myself for about 8-10 of those hours  on average.)

Real Life and Blogging

I love it when I find and can read blogs by people I know in real life! It’s one of the benefits of having a public blog, and not hiding behind an alias. I can comment on their blogs, and maybe even talk to them about blogging in real life!

Two people I know have started blogs this year. One is a girl I work with, who I don’t know very well yet. What can I say, I’m kind of shy. Anyway, she’s a very talented artist and I’ve had fun learning little bits about her when we’ve had lunch breaks together. She’s really quite rad. *grin* Go take a peek: bare bones, twigs & stones

The second person is a girl I went to grade school and junior high with. We were never very good friends, but it is still pretty fun to read her blog because her life has taken such an interesting path. After high school she started modeling, and she got quite a lot of work. I remember seeing her in Gap ads when I was in college, and she was on a half dozen Italian magazine covers over the years. She has also been in a couple of movies, like The Devil Wears Prada. Despite all that, I still mainly think of her as one of the cheerleaders from my junior high squad, since that’s when I knew her best. Have a look-see:supermodelblogger

Busy!

I’m still alive & healthy, I’m just quite busy with non-computer things! *grin*

I’m trying to finish up my garb this weekend so I can give it a trial run during Wednesday’s SCA Folkmoot. Let me just say Thank Goodness I started on the underdress first, heh. It’s not all that pretty, but it should be functional. It has been quite the learning experience putting it together, considering I have practically zero experience with sewing.

Other than that, I got a book about medieval calligraphy, and a pen & paper so I can give it a try. I’ll wait until I’m finished with my tunics though, or I may never finish them!

Further geekage includes finishing the first season of the new Dr. Who. It was pretty fun and terribly campy. I’ll have to see how the second season goes!

Millicent Thrash

So, we’ve been playing a lot of this since last night:

I’m Millicent Thrash, lead singer of the epic trio, Chartreuse Midget! We rock! *giggle*

Merry early Christmas to Jon (and me)!!

A Flight to Texas Costs…

I ran into this video at a forum a few days ago. I like it. I think it’s a good way to make money seem more real.

I’ve been doing something similar to this for years for my entertainment purchases. I weigh the total time I’ll enjoy it vs. the price. For example, spending $9 on a CD/MP3s has the potential to entertain me for many many hours, while seeing a movie in the theater will only entertain me for 2-3 hours. The music is usually a better value, thus I generally only go see movies I’m really excited about in the theater.

I do wonder if perhaps this is why video games have grown so popular. The price is often high, but the total hours of entertainment potential are also high, quite possibly less than a dollar an hour if it’s a good game with replay possibilities.

Anyway, to further play with this concept, if Jon and I wanted to fly down to Texas for the Renaissance Fair, we’d be looking at over 3 complete Rock Band 2 sets just for airfare. That could also be translated to about 8 weeks worth of groceries. Or, roughly 250 20oz. bottles of Mountain Dew.

If I build a computer, it’ll probably cost about the same as 45 belly dance lessons at The Cassandra School. Or more than 200 pints of Ben & Jerry’s. Fascinating! *grin*
